The way in which children are assessed has changed as from September 2015. The system of using levels to measure attainment and progress, which has been in place since the late 1980s, has gone and schools have been asked to develop their own assessment methods.
As a school we have worked closely with our partners in the Forest Way Teaching School Alliance to consider what we are going to assess and how.
We have adopted the 'Key Performance Indicators' (KPIs) devised by the NAHT (National Association of Headteachers) for each year group, from Year 1 to Year 6. Below are the KPIs for Reading, Writing and Mathematics. Alongside the KPIs are descriptions of what children should be able to do by the end of each year.
Workshops have been held to provide parents with key information; the Powerpoint presentation which we used is below, along with three other documents which were referred to during the presentation.
